Prong collars have metal dull prongs attached to a metal chain. They are basically designed to restrain the dog by pulling the collar which in turn would create pressure on the prongs giving the uncomfortable sensation.
Choke collars, also known as choke chains, are a metal chain with two rings. When the leash is attached to the live ring, it adjusts the collar that gets tighter or looser depending on how it is being pulled. The dead ring, however, has no effect if the leash is passed through it.
Restricting harnesses cause discomfort to the neck of the wearer. Their purpose is to cause the dog to change its behaviour. The chain gets tighter if the dog pulls it which in turn causes pressure on the neck indicating that the behaviour is supposed to be altered.
